Pieces with mirror symmetry?
on: January 17, 2025, 04:20:39 AM
Hi!
Do you know any solo piano pieces that deal with the mirror symmetry of the keyboard? I came across this kind of piano playing through Béla Bartók and his piece "Subject and Reflection" (Mikrokosmos vol. 6, no. 141) and find it very intriguing. He uses the mirror axis d so that both hands use the same black and white keys at the same time. It would be great to know more pieces of this type. Thank you for your contributions.

There's "Reflective Keyboard Studies for Piano" by Vincent Persichetti. Persichetti also wrote a piano sonata (his #12) that uses the same reflective symmetry.

He also wrote eight "Mirror Etudes" and another set of mirror pieces called "Little Mirror Book"
