Replaying basslines (Over original sample)
on: February 28, 2005, 07:29:38 AM
Hi all,
Just want to see if I can grab a little advice on replaying basslines...Im not a "Piano player", dont read music etc but am teaching myself a few rules in order to step my game up a bit - So far, I'd say I play by ear - I've got quite a good ear. I can hear things well and know when they are off.... Melodies are no problem.
Its basslines that give me trouble. I can never get the key right (Dont think I know how to tell what the start note is) I find it even more difficult to match the notes of basslines because of the various tones synth basslines have between each other (Inc octave influence) - I've since tried using a piano patch from my module to help me 1st work out the notes. A pianos pitch is a lot more distinct...Especially when u hit a bad note
How do I get around this Octave issue? How do I find the "key"? I find that sometimes I find the notes (sort off) but the start note is either to high or to low to what im trying to match it with. This is really killing me....It takes me hours jus to work out out the notes of basslines (Surely this aint right - lol)
I got a new project I've started using this sample...Soundining quite good but without a bassline. I just cant figure out the bass notes :-( If anybody would like to tell me what they are, I'l send you a loop/clip - That would really help get me started....Annnnnnnnnnd, I'll be your best friend!
In the mean time, a little help, advice, tip(s) would be welcomed with open arms
Thanks in advance
