Feedback on a Symphony Movement Sketch
on: April 05, 2025, 04:39:29 PM
Hello Piano Legends,
I have been playing the Piano for years now, despite that my music theory knowledge is very limited. My field of study isn't music and I do it as a hobby. Sometimes I mess around and compose some stuff but I never really shared any. Today I decided to share some of the music I compose in hope to get some feedback from musicians who has more knowledge, classically trained, and can assess the piece. (Anyone is welcome to give feedback ofc)
The piece is just a sketch so far, it's meant for a symphony as a first movement, I recorded it on a digital piano choosing the vocal as strings. Sorry for the poor quality of the recording, it was recorded on my phone.
I hope you can listen to it till the end
and give honest feedback on it.
Thanks

I am not an ideal person to comment as I have never attempted to write orchestral music and am just an old piano improviser. Neither have I ever bothered with theories as I have little interest in sounding like music of the past. However, as nobody has replied, I feel any effort in a creative direction has to be encouraged. The question is really how you yourself feel about your music. Does it say what you wanted it to say ? Does it, at least to your own ears, surprise and delight ? Does it propel you to reach out in new directions ? Other people, however well intentioned and knowledgeable, cannot answer these questions for you or tell you which notes to play. That is at once the joy and onus of any artistic creation. I suggest you continue to create your own music, whether through improvisation or composition, piano or orchestra, simply because at seventy-seven I know the internal rewards of doing so grow with age to far exceed those of just playing other people's ideas.
