She is fantastic but so are a thousand other asians just like her.  There must be some kind of pianist factory in Asia.  Asian parents really push there kids to practice and excell.   If this kid very born 100 years earlier she would be praised as the next Mozart or Liszt.  However this kind of playing is beginning to be the norm.
There are more wunderkinds then ever all over the world, but especially in asian countries.
Out of curiosity, what is the name of the piece that she is performing?

I'd put my money on Clementi or Haydn, but there are so many or them and I have so little experience with them that I couldn't say which.

Can the original poster post a link to a performance from one of the higher divisions?  I'd be interested in that if they have it.

I thought she played the Mendelssohn very well.  The 11 year old was also impressive.  It's amazing how dedicated the asian population is to the arts.  Puts us to shame sometimes.

When I saw the older girl in the pink dress, I thought to myself, "I bet she's going to play the Rondo Capriccioso."  Too predictable, and I don't care for her playing.

I shouldn't be able to set my watch to the Andante.

By the time they are 20, they will both have plenty of injuries (if they don't already). Neither of them looked terribly happy.

well..
isn't it just "seriousness" ??
cuz when i practice piano..i become very serious and my face also becomes a little stunned..
Also they were playing for a competition..i don't think many ppl can show smile while they are having a little tention
or..maybe because they are amateurs?

pretty impressive technique for both performers, but I was so so so so so bored with the 14 yr old girl.  even she looks bored, and as a result, to me, it all sounds very boring and mechanical - but hey, it seems to be a tense, tightass competition, so who can blame her?

again, impressive playing on the 11yr old's part, but to me, it felt more like a technique exhibition of scales etc. and it all seemed very unmusical to me.

oh well, I guess it just follows the asian pianist stereotype we all know

Well I bet I can critique these two!

11 Year old: awsome!

14 Year old: Awsome! I don't know if it was my speakers but the entire piece sounded like one long monotone  . Kinda boring too...

(But hey we are talking asians here? One thing you can expect from MOST asian performer is 100% of the notes and 0% of the musicality. Well, I am speaking for the majority at least. There are always the lower majority of asians who actually put forth the emotion of the piece, and that really stands out from the rest.  The asian race seems to be dominant and the arts and the smarts simply because of the background of their heritage. Their standards are so much higher than the "typical guys" standards. The first performer was much better than the second...

11 Year old = 2% of asians
14 Year old = 98% of asians

I hope I don't sound racist, but come on... These guys practice till their hands bleed, and you either have the spark of musicality or you don't. Remember the saying "you can do anything as long as you set your mind to it?"

Or maybe it's not racism but some form of "culturalism" . that last girl you posted is an excellent example.  It's something that I only see female Asian pianists do for some reason, and it drives me nuts, the way she waves her body and arms all around.  I really can't stand to watch it.  Some don't but I never see other kids do this - I can't explain it.  can anybody else?

yes!! absolutely, i have noticed the same annoying crap and how only asian girls do it. damn it, so frustrating and aggravating to watch.  Im not being racist either - it just happens, and I see it.

I would not consider these kids prodigies, or something exceptional. They are very well tought, but in what they play I don't hear musical talent, or most likely, their personalities just were not "waken up". Any normal more or less motivated kid having a good teacher, by age 14-15 should be accomplished pianist. But music is not about how you play at 7, 9, 11, or 15. It is about who you are, and how you play when you are 35.
