I enjoyed this.  Catchy quasi 2 against 3 rhythmic motif combined with descending chromatic harmonic pattern is used throughout.  C# minor/major tonality anchors the entire work, or is the C# a dominant pedal to F# tonality as the ending suggests?   GREAT ENDING! I think there is enough interest in the motif to justify a full 5-minute improv on this.  All you need is a silent film to go along with this.

That's a pretty animated autumn evening, maybe an August 31st evening among 10 year olds at the lake house?  the last hurrah before school starts?

It's bold of you to play so many octave melodies - great practice idea.

I think the primary cornerstone in improvising (and playing repertoire) is to transmit a very solid feel of the rhythmic pulse.  It might be a fun experiment to improvise with the metronome ticking.
