What in particular did you find amazing about this recording? Taste is always subjective, so just curious.

Good find! My teacher was Jura Margulis, son of Vitaly. Jura mentioned this recording many years ago, and how he held down and emphasized the middle voice. Check out Vitaly's Beethoven Op. 111 too if you get a chance.

It certainly is an interesting recording, very original approach.  I've never heard it played with so much freedom in the pulse - very very rubato.
The playing is clean, clear, the tone consistent.  Holding the inner voice longer than most pianists - interesting!
He makes it sound kind of eerie, ghost-like.  He deflates the climax and many spots where most pianists lean into romantic passion.

I'm not sure I would call it "amazing" - because it doesn't really impress.  Perhaps "original and eccentric".

Interesting... maybe. Personally I think it's silly. It's like he's trying to make a melody out of the left hand chords, except there is no melody in the left hand.
