Is this a balanced/good repertoire for an exam
on: October 23, 2025, 04:48:50 PM
Doing ABRSM lrsm next year november , is this repertoire good/balanced

Bach WTC II Prelude and fugue no 24
Beethoven sonata Les adieux
Chopin etudes any two of 10-4,10-1 and 10-7 (i have to pick any two of these from my current rep )
Debussy Reflets dans l'eau

There is still space left for one more sonata or something (18mins), might add a mozart sonata ( maybe the a minor one ) or schubert sonata , or switch the etudes out for ballades/scherzi

Also for teachers out there who know about ABRSM Lrsm diploma , is there a theory or GK test too?

The program looks fine but I'd advise against adding another sonata to make up that 18 minutes you need. Switching the etudes for a larger romantic piece would work because then you have multi-movement pieces for your baroque/classical, a larger scale composition for romantic, then a shorter 20c piece.

My only other thought is it needs a better ending, like for Debussy pieces there's Jardins sous la pluie or L'isle joyeuse or Feux d'artifice (not as hard as it sounds) or you could keep Reflets and add a 5th piece- something light or jazzy perhaps.

And no there isn't a theory test in AB diplomas. I heard they were phasing out the viva and sight reading elements but I don't know if this has come into effect yet (or if they've replaced them with a different kind of test)
