Where would La Campenella (S.141/3) place in terms of technical difficulty amongst Liszt's S.139 Transcendental Etudes?
2026 Goal:
Bach-Busoni: Chaconne in D Minor, BWV 1004
Ravel: Gaspard de la nuit, M. 55
Scriabin: Piano Sonata No. 5, Op. 53
Stravinsky: Trois Mouvements de "Pétrouchka" / Stravinsky-Agosti: Firebird

Easier than nos. 2, 4, 5, 8, 10, and 12, and about even with no. 7.

Here's another question.
What about its quality compared to the S.139 etudes?

Ravel: Gaspard de la nuit, M. 55

Stealing my question from the other thread, lol.
Here's another question.

Worse than all of them, which is why I didn't put that question here but did for Scarbo.

The S. 140 version, on the other hand, is my favorite of Liszt's Etudes lol.

I would have to disagree. The S.141 La Campanella isn't that bad in quality compared to the S.139s. In my opinion, it would be about equal with them, because it does to some extent imitate bells successfully.

For the S.140 version, they are great etudes ofc, but wouldn't you say that the excessive amounts of technical challenges and the notes serving that purpose ("transcendental Paganini etudes") obstruct their music a bit?

Honestly all of the S. 140 Etudes are better than the S. 141 versions with the exception of no. 5. 140/4b sucks though; 140/4a is a lot better.

Part of it is just that S. 141 is so horrendously overplayed, but I do think that my preferences would be the same otherwise.

La campanella presents great variety on the technical aspect, such as jumps, scales ecc… I feel like it’s more complete than any of the trascendental etudes, that, they work on a specific aspect besides mazeppa
