Wich of the 4 Mazeppas ?
on: March 05, 2005, 09:26:35 PM
Wich one of the four mazeppas liszt wrote do you prefer as a piece of music, not an etude. Just asking since I think i'm not ready to play it and I would like to pick the best one
I have the four in the book of the 36 etudes (etudes in 12 exercises, grandes etudes, mazeppa, and transcendental, the busoni edition.)

Wasn't the symphonic poem only written for orchestra, or is it the Mazeppa that is apart from all the sets ??

last version is the best: étude d'exécution transcendante 4: Mazeppa.
The 2 previous versions are harder but less effective, less poetic. Exercice 4 may be interesting for a reading but not much more.
Piano all the way!!!!
Like for the HR, I find piano version more convincing than orchestral version.

Thanks! By the way I don't care if they're harder or not
So I'll be working on the transcendental etude !
