A depressing fact
on: March 07, 2005, 09:50:27 PM
Just noticed that I moved into the top ten in "Most Time Spent Online." Over three days in the past year! :o I need to stop reading this board and practice more. Three whole days worth of practice time could have made a huge difference. Or at least I could have been doing more constructive things besides practicing.

I only read this board for about 10-15 minutes per day (a lot of times not even that much), which doesn't seem like a lot, but .25 hours times 365 days equals a little over 91 hours. Sheesh.......

Even Bernhard, who has close to 3,000 posts and often writes long replies, apparently has spent less time online than me. Sorry if I'm ranting, I'm just really surprised is all.....

Peace,
Bri

I'm not sure how much these figures mean in my own case. Sometimes I forget and leave the computer on line and frequently I write posts in editors off line and quickly copy them into the forum later on. I suppose just over a day in three years seems about right and certainly acceptable - if anything I expected a higher total.

I've left the pf site open while I'm doing other stuff on or offline.

Brian, just don't log in.  The site won't record your time and you won't feel bad!  :D  You don't have to solve your problems -- Just avoid them!  ;D

Hahahaha I guess that's one way to do it.

What Ted said makes a lot of sense, and I never thought of that. I frequently read the forum in the morning, and I know that, more than once or twice, I've left for the day with the forum still up on my screen. Or, I'll get distracted or whatever and be away from the computer doing something else while still logged in. So, I guess that probably counts toward "online" time. I don't feel like such time waster now.  :)

Peace,
Bri

I notice that I've been awarded ninth position in this particular statistic! I too tend to leave my computer logged on to Piano Forum and then go and do something else for several hours, but I'm not convinced that this will all be recorded as time on line. If you look at the Users Online section at the bottom of the PF index you will see that it only records users active in the past 15 minutes. I think if you are not actively flicking though posts, your time on line probably stops being counted after 15 minutes. (Just a guess).

I have however opted to remain automatically logged on. I suspect other prolific posters who are not in the top ten tend to browse whilst not logged on and log on only to post their reply.

But, there is a lot of interesting stuff to read here, so I don't feel I should be ashamed. My imaginary friends all agree with me, for once..................

Hmmm, I think I would find it much more disturbing if I were to tally up the amount of time spent watching TV or playing computer games,  or sitting in a bar drinking... oh wait I don't do much of that stuff !  ;D

Even if it is fairly accurate and records activity by the past 15 minute intervals, it's still time you're thinking piano.  That's good.

If I was really into reading and thinking about a book, I would be spend a lot of time doing that.

Everything looks different when you tally up the time or amount for the whole year.  8 hours of sleep a night for a year equals about 120 days of solid sleeping (or just a third of the whole year).  4 months of sleeping!

I've thought about doing things for 15 minutes each day.  Some things take periods of more intense focus though.

If it's productive, mind changing thoughtful time online, then it's good.

Hm.  Interesting.  I am not on the list, but I have my pc set to remain logged in "permanently" (I never remember passwords) - so how is this statistic gathered?
