Pianist promotion using Internet
on: March 08, 2005, 07:36:11 PM
Ever thought about promoting yourself using free downloadable recordings on the net?
I have worked with the site https://pianosociety.com since the start and the project is very successful. One way to rate this success is to check the site rank using Google. Check the following (or try yourself):

Google Search Criteria - Result
waltzes - Rank 7 of about 404 000 hits
waltzes chopin - Rank 1 of about 69 400 hits
chopin etudes study - Rank 6 of about 22 600 hits
chopin etudes - Rank 11 of about 148 000 hits
scriabin preludes - Rank 3 of about 27 600 hits
liszt etudes - Rank 5 of about 91 100 hits
piano recordings free - Rank 1 of about 618 000 hits

No doubt, if you want a spot in the sun as pianist, this is the place to be :).

(Note! I use google.se, the hit rank can differ depending where you are located)

If this is of interest, drop me an email using my contact information on the site.

i'm interested (in a couple of months).  i hope to have a recital program ready and need to find somewhere to record onto MP3.  i don't really know how this is done.  can they do it at WCU for me?  I am looking for simple gigs to play for (not major performances or anything) - possibly weddings/parties/restaurants (have done many in the past - but need to refresh on the music people want to hear- some contemporary).

ps do you have any lists of freqently asked songs that people want to hear (both classical and pop/jazz)?  i am making several 'books' for each purpose.
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

I think this site can be a great asset to pianists. It reminds me of mp3.com in a way. I would just make sure that whoever is in charge to listen to all the mp3's before posting them. That way you don't get a site full of crap recordings.

Your interest sounds great!
Unfortunately we are not able to make any bookings for you and do not, yet, server as an organistion that actively promote pianists. Rather, pianists can use the site as a reference of their own playing together with a biography.
Also, if people search on google for a certain recording it is a great chance they end up on our site. Either through directly hits to our site or through links as https://classiccat.com .
We also host larger scopes as Chopin's 2:nd concerta, Rachmaninov's 1:st concerto etc. and continue to grow fast.
The more recordings we host on the site, the more attractive the site gets as a whole. A true win-win situation.

We have a secure technical platform (as well as financial) with redundant 100 mbit/s fiber to Internet for the actual site while the recordings are located on separate redundant servers.
Note that we are very careful on the legal aspects on recordings which unfortunately (except if there are special arrangements made as for Robert Caby for example) leaves out a lot of modern composers.
Happy downloading ;-).

Actually, we do listen to all of them and trust me when I say that this is a slow process ;-). We have a Music Board which decides if recordings should go up and we have a guideline regarding recordings which is located here:

Piano Street Magazine:
Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges.
