thread indexing boxes?

I wonder if there's a way to let the thread view "index" a thread by checking boxes.  The boxes would list what the topic of the thread is (yes, what a huge list that would be).  However, I imagine someone would do it, check off boxes that cover what material is presented in the thread.  It might make the site searchable or viewable in a different way.  Maybe it could be a voting thing.  Or have strengths for certain people's votes to prevent passersby from purposely messing things up.  It's an idea anyway.
