Should I have a teacher at this moment? What kind?
on: March 13, 2005, 06:21:53 AM
Hi, guys.
I am new comer and like this place a lot.
These days, I am considering such a question: Should I have a piano teacher?
Before college, I studied piano (under a piano professor of a music school) for 5 or 6 years and ended up with Chopin Etude Op10/5(black key). (I believe at that time, I played it reasonably well). In college, I didn't play piano anymore( no access to piano). Now, I am in graduate school and I pick up piano again and started to learn on my own. I just finished Op25/1 and am just about to start another one. Then I ask myself. Am I playing this correctly? Since I had been learning piano from a very professional teacher, I know the importance of correct habbit and techniques to play a piece. I am wondering if I am qualified to learn on myself. Whenever I am in the pratice room, I work very hard so I don't want to pay all these efforts in a wrong way.
Probably, I have to find a teacher for me. Then the question is that what kind of teacher should I look for? I am not suitable for a weekly or biweekly as most people or I did before. And also, I would like to decide which piece to learn on my own. Sometimes, I think I need a professional teacher to have a look at my playing and give me some instructions. (and schedule of the class is by appointment.) I am asking this question is because I REALLY don't know if that kind of demand is any offense to a professional teacher. Is it possible to find such a teacher?
Thank you for reply in advance.
