difficulty question..
on: March 16, 2005, 11:49:28 PM

Hello, I was wondering which piece is more technically difficult, the 3rd mvt. of the Appassionata or the Revolutionary Etude... and how much more difficult (level-wise, i guess.)  I never was able to get through the first page of the etude, whereas the sonata seems to fall in line quite nicely.  Just wanted to make sure I wasn't nuts or something.

(Also, since I'm here, is the first or third movement the more technically difficulty in the Appassionata?)

Thanks! ;D

They are both written pretty differently in style. If you haven't really experienced your hand around Chopin etudes then you will always find them tough at first since they are meant to show you technique altering stuff. I would say overall however the 3rd movement Appassionata is harder to pull off correctly. It demands a lot more control and goes through more variation at the keyboard. Once you crack the few technical aspects of the Chopin etude it becomes much more routine.
