Carl Tausig - The Ghost Ship Op. 1
on: March 18, 2005, 12:20:59 AM
Who knows this piece? What do you think of it ? & does someone have the sheetmusic?

I think it's brilliant. Perfect piece for a virtuoso with strong hands.

I have it.  Here's the sheet music:

I've not heard it before, but I have the Ponti recording on LP.   I'll have to listen to it.

Many thx. It looks very linear and simple. I certainly didn't expect this. It sounds more complicated than it is. Fantastic score :)

So what do you think??? Great piece for a recital imo, cause it's rare and actually very easy :)

"Carl Tausig (1841 – 1871), a great Polish pianist and composer, was the most gifted and famous of the first generation of Liszt pupils. Liszt said, Tausig had “fingers of steel”. Tausig’s numerous piano arrangements of famous composers are extremely effective and still remain invaluable."

What? Are you serious? Do you really think it's easy? Come back with a recording of yourself playing the work and I'll think it's easy. Have you even seen that glissando? It's supposed to be played as if it were like a chromatic scale.

OK the last glissando is very difficult, but the rest? I will play it (already have done 2 pages)and I send you a recording. But seriously this piece is easier than it's sound. If you can play some great Rachmaninoff or Liszt I suggest you try it too.

Thanks for the recording FreddyChopin.  I got my LP out to play it and discovered my turntable is broke!

Interesting piece.  With the exception of the chromatic glissandos, the rest appears to be manageable for the early advanced pianist, but it helps if you have big hands.

Wow  :o What a wonderful piano piece ˇˇˇ
The masterpiece tell the performer what to do, and not the performer telling the piece what it should be like, or the cocomposer what he ought to have composed.
