Left Handed Pianists
on: March 21, 2005, 11:09:49 AM
It struck me as a matter of curiosity as to whether any of the Great Pianists of the Twentieth Century were Left-handed. I can imagine there would be a level of ambidexterity among them, but does anyone actually know of the left-handed pianists?

Thanks
Theodopolis
Does anyone else here think the opening of Liszt's 'Orage' (AdP - Suisse No.5) sounds like the Gymnopedie from Hell?

I take it that you know that a piano has been built which is supposed to be better for left handed people.
If you don't than see the link.

I'm a pianist, not ambidextrous, and left-handed.  It took many many years of practice to acquire the strength and agility that I had on my left side, e.g. shoulder, arm, wrist, fingers and acquiring it equally to my weaker right side.  The initial weakness of my R.H. finger dexterity, in comparison to my L.H. finger dexterity, was the most difficult obstacle to overcome.   Now, and only when I'm playing at the piano, do I feel ambidextrous with my playing apparatus, but away from the piano I still naturally do things that lefties do - I favor my left side just as right-handed people favor their right side.

I believe a pianist called ? Chris Stein has build a left handed piano and tours with two playing same repertory back to front on the other piano. :o
