buying individual piano keys?
on: March 23, 2005, 10:31:57 AM
is this possible? i really want to stick on real piano keys onto an artwork i'm thinking about cos that'd be really cool. now i'd take apart my own piano, but haven't yet officially got a new one so that's probably not a good idea. and if you can buy them, where abouts and around how much do they cost? maybe i'm just better off sculpting some...

Well you could always buy the working action demonstration models Steinway & Sons sell, but at $672 a pop they might be a little out of your price range.

yes, i'd sculpt some with that stuff called sculpy (that you bake).  i've found several rocks - one in the shape of a grand piano!  i decided right then and there to carry the heavy rock to my front porch.  i sat down with my black and white paint and painted on the keyboard and then the black lid.  now i have to find my rock bench.

one could make a fortune for piano aficiandos making all kinds of piano related stuff.  (am thinking about doing some stained glass, now, of a keyboard all around the front door).
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

well i can't say it'd be remotely worth buying anything at $672 cos it's just gonna be some crappy artwork! but yeah sculpting is seeming good. how funny getting a rock in the shape of a piano.

oh yeah if anyone wants to take their piano apart and sell me the keys that option is also welcome!

Go to a place that restores old pianos - they might have old parts?  I think there are some factories in Seven Hills and Blacktown area.  I buy my strings from a string maker in Blacktown, but I don't think he'd have keys - he just makes strings, I think.
