Finding Piano teacher
on: March 25, 2005, 03:24:57 AM
I'm an undergrad student majoring in piano performance. I'll be graduated in a few years. For that reason, I am looking for a good place and a good teacher to study with. I'm in an asian country. However, I don't mind studying abroad. In fact, I looking for good piano teachers in US, Australia, England or German. And because I'm living in an asian country, it's hard for me to get the information about those teachers in these countries. I would appriciate if some of you can recommend me some teachers from these countries and their music camp they usually teach in. So that I can study with them and get to know their style before I apply for the university.

Thanks

If I were to recommend a university, it would be Oberlin College in Illinois. You could study with Angela Cheng, a world-renowned concert pianist who hails from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Listen to a few of her recordings and then jump at the chance to study with her.

Depending on what type of music you want to specialize in, consider Debussy and Ravel specialist Yves Thibaudet (check the spelling of his name). Angela Hewitt specializes in Bach, I believe.

I would start by going to the library and listening to dozens of recordings. Then find out where the best pianists are residing.

Good luck.
