Horowitz Carmen Variations anyone?
on: March 27, 2005, 10:43:25 PM
Was wondering if anybody knows how to get one's hands on a copy of the Horowitz Carmen variations, or if it even exists in print  I've been told that it doesn't but I've noticed a few people have been including it in competition programmes recently.  So unless there's an unnerving amount of aural genius' out there transcribing it from the recording, there must be another way of getting hold of it. Please help. I'm gagging to play it!

There is a transcription of the version he played on the Duo Art piano roll. There are also many other transcriptions of his arrangements, including Stars and Stripes, Hungarian Rhapsody No.2 and Sonata No.2 by Rachmaninov. I don't have the sheets myself at the moment; maybe another member will be able to provide you with them.

Horowitz never wrote down the notes, and he played it differently all the time.
So there are a lot of version by different transcribers by lizetning to the recoridng many many times. (I personally have 12 versions of this variations, and I have talked to one of the transcriber K.Chiu before)

Does anyone know where we can find some MP3's of any of these variations, or recommend a cd with some on?
Great link to those scores, thanks  ;)

Hi, I have a score of the "White-House" recital, but I don´t know how can I give you a copy, maybe by mail?

Did you know that Arcadi Volodos also has a recording of the 1968 horowitz´s version ?
Music should not be "Ur-text" , it should be "Ur-spirit"
