Does the pianodisc system affect the performance of a grand piano, and devalue the piano?

I can't speak to Pianodisc directly, but I owned a Yamaha C3 with the Disklavier installed. It definitely helped when I sold it a couple of years back. Installing a pianodisc does physically alter the piano somewhat, although it's not noticeable just to look at it. The solenoids on the pedals are awkard at first, and take some getting used to. make sure your technician is experienced in installing, as there is a critical cut on the keybed, and the legs must be cut into also. But having piano music play from your piano instead of a CD is awesome! Best wishes with it. ;)

More than one tech has told me that aftermarket installation of the Pianodisc system is a tricky and somewhat risky procedure... if the process doesn't go well, the piano will pay. So it is a procedure they would rather not take on. This should tell you something.

Having one factory installed (at the time of the piano's construction) is another matter. No question it's a great system. It will certainly make your piano more enjoyable and saleable.

honey,

If a pianodisc system is installed in a well designed shop setting, whether the piano is being presently built or not, you should have no problems.

Also, the installing tech. should have been educated in the installation process at the manufacturers site. Without these conditions, an installation is certainly a sticky situation.

Good Luck,

Toward the Flame: Boris Petrushansky’s Journey Through Scriabin’s Universe

Alexander Scriabin died in April 1915, at forty-three, of a fever that took him within a week — leaving his great mystical project unfinished. He left behind a piano language no one had spoken before, one that a century later still questions every interpreter who approaches it. Boris Petrushansky has spent a lifetime preparing his answer. In a new album and an extended conversation with Piano Street, he traces Scriabin’s path from the early Preludes to the final, shattering Op. 74. Read more
