a little baroque trifle
on: March 29, 2005, 03:33:09 AM
Hello everyone, he's a short little baroque piece I wrote this evening. Comments? Request for sheet music? Ha, not expecting that.  I know its not Bach or Scarlatti, but...

I thought while I'm at it I might as well link you to my earlier experiment with baroque composition....

If you want to hear the other one with a piano voice as well just let me know...

very cool Derek!  it is deceitful in that you think it's going to be a fugue, but then it is a two part invention, and then turns into a comical development and ends with such a nice resolution.  yes, it's 20th century baroque with a twist of lime.
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

LOL I love your description of it. In fact, a reaction like that I think is far more desirable than:  WOW, IT SOUNDS *EXACTLY* LIKE BACH!  :) :) :)

When I wrote it I kind of just let the ideas flow in and out of one another, I had no consideration of like mood or contrast or continuity or form or anything, except a few general shapes and chord progressions I know that sound baroque-ish.

take some theory and composition classes and keep on experimenting.  keep a diary because you never know when ideas will come to you.  i have scraps of paper everywhere and little half written (some fully written) songs, melodies, harmonies, ideas.  someday, when i have time, i will finish some of the chorale pieces.  i can hear voice parts better than instrumental parts (and ranges), but i suppose there must be a site to better familiarize oneself with all the instruments of the orchestra and listenable ranges.  is there?  say a midi site?
