I've been trying without any luck to find a computer application that lets you enter any combination of notes (for example: C, G, and A#), and then the program tells you which scales have all of the notes that you entered in them.

For example, let's say I enter "C, G, A#". Then the program spits back to me a list of all of the scales which contain all of these notes.

Any ideas?  Thanks  :)

What platform are you working on, and how good are you at scripting/programming? It is often easier to write such little programs yourself rather than waiting for some fancy piece of software to show up.

I'm on windows XP.  I took an introductory C++ course many years ago, but I've forgotten most of it.

The logical structure of the program would be very simple, the only tough part for me would be the computer language.  Maybe I can ask my girlfriend, she's a programmer.  She's very busy though and probably sees more programming than she wants to already... I'll ask her anyway, she owes me a favor  :D

If and when I get this program together, I'll post a link to it here in case anyone wants it.

If anyone has a program that can do what's described at the top of this thread and therefore can save me the effort though, I'd much appreciate it :)

Guitar pro has that feature but it isn't free. It's a basic kind of midi sequencer and isn't worth buying, especially if you just want to work out scales
