Richter in Siberia
on: January 22, 2026, 09:15:06 PM
Hello. I've read several accounts mentioning Richter travelling through Siberia by car in the 1980s and giving 'hundreds' of impromptu recitals.
Can anyone point me in the direction of more information on these? Are there any photos? Recordings? They sound ad hoc and given the general remoteness of the location I understand if information about them is scanty - the problem is I'm beginning to wonder if it's all a myth. Does anyone know anything about this? Thankyou!

He then drove to Greenland, across to Iceland, and arrived finally in his Skoda in Denmark. He conquered them all.

Wikipedia cites Transsiberian Express, Le Monde de la musique, May 1989 for that anecdote. Maybe if you can track that magazine down you'll find out more.
