Build your CD collection for cheap
on: April 07, 2005, 04:42:06 PM
Before I start, let me say that I'm gaining nothing from this post.  I don't work for the companies mentioned, and I'm certainly not getting any kind of commission.  Call it, oh I don't know, kindness.

- YourMusic (www.yourmusic.com): It's a subscription service, but not the subscription service you're thinking about.  Decent selection, but the best part is the price: $5.99 per disc (these discs retail for $15-20), no exceptions.  2-disc sets are $11.98 (Hyperion's 2-disc sets retail for $38-40), 3-disc sets are $17.97, and so forth.  Free shipping.  You are required to purchase one selection every month for $5.99.  You can purchase many at a time, but multiple disc orders do not count for the following months.  You build up a queue, which you can organize any way you want, and they will charge your credit card and ship you your next selection every 30 days.  You can quit at any time.

- BMG (https://service.bfast.com/bfast/click?bfmid=20904140&siteid=41444546&bfpage=12for1nothing):  As a reward for joining, you get 7 CDs "free," but I had to pay S&H fees of over $17.  Eh, still cheap.  Then, you are required to purchase 1 CD at full price ($15-20), at which point they give you 5 more CDs for free (plus S&H of course).  Then, you can quit!  13 CDs for the price of 2 or 3 (factoring in S&H).  A good deal, but every month you must cancel the "featured selection" or they will send it automatically and charge you for it.

I'm a member of both programs, so I can answer any questions you have about either.

I am thinking about signing up with my friend and between the two of us get one cd a month.
