Can anybody rate the Chopin polonaises in order of difficulty? i've only played two of them (Opus 40 No. 1 and No. 2) so i don;t really have a view to their difficulty.

do we mean on same polonaise?! in Ges-dur,  has 6 pages?!  i played it, and it's not one of the hardest polonaises, i'd rather say it's one of the easiest!  you ranked it like harder than op.44, op.61, and op.53!    :o

sorry if i didn't understand you... :P

I am playing Op. 44, and it is, IMO, the hardest.

You're right for some part. Polonaise no. 16 in Gb is between No.15 & No.6, but it is definitely not one of the easiest. It is advanced. So is No.14 which comes after No.16, because No.5 is more difficult. (I've changed in the post)

Did you play the Grande Polonaise Brilliante?? It is more difficult than Op. 44 IMO.

Ahhhh yes...sorry, I didn't keep the Grande Polonaise Brilliante in mind.  You are right, actually, I was deciding between learning that and 44 (my teacher let me decide), and since I am doing the Rach Rhapsody, I thought that there would be no way in hell I could handle the Grande Polonaise.  That is definitely harder than 44.  My fault.

If you can play op.44 well, you can begin with the Grande Polonaise Brilliante. It needs far more time and effort, but it is a true masterpiece  :)
