New pieces
on: February 21, 2026, 02:09:18 PM
And for my next repertoire I was thinking a pairing of either Beethoven patgerique I or Beethoven moonlight III along with Rach prelude op 32/10 (which I started but stopped because of a medical emergency)

Thoughts? Tips for any of these pieces? The question is not whether I'm ready for them (I am)
Rather tips, thoughts on which Beethoven to choose, and experiences while practicing.

Thanks!!

I might add, I have played both the other movements of the Moonlight and the pathetique sonata. I know that they are a lot less hard, but my teacher has told me that I would be ready for the two movements of this pieces that I wrote in the original post. And I have played pieces comparatively or more difficult to them.

You're over thinking it.
You'll likely be playing both Pathetique 1st mv and Moonlight 3rd mv within the next 2 years so the criticalness of choosing one or the other first is rather light.

Why can't your teacher decide for you?

best wishes

Of course either I or my teacher can come make the choice in the end but is there something wrong with being interested in what other people have to say? Oh and this year I have to move teachers currently I got a job on the other side of the country. I'm a hobbyist

Anyway to rephrase this question into the void: maybe people have insights into either of these two Beethoven pieces i.e unexpected difficulties or whatever, that would be interesting for me to know.

moonlight III I find the repeated chords and jumps much more tricky than the arpeggios. Maybe there are tricks to make the jumps more secure?

I love Falla's music. Nights in the Gardens of Spain is my favourite.
