Transferring schools?
on: March 09, 2026, 01:14:34 AM
Has anyone transferred schools from a music performance program at a university to a conservatoire?

I am curious about if you are then in competition to get in with others who are applying as first years or if you are an extraneous case? (profs have standards to how a student of what year/age should sound?)

If you're applying after 1 year at a university, then you're probably be placed as a first-year at the conservatory, so you are competing with the first year applicants, but they will certainly consider what you accomplished in your first year at university...
If you ask them to be placed as a second year conservatory student, they will probably deny the option but if they did allow it, they will assess you against the 2nd year students.  Make sense?

You can certainly talk to the admission departments, ask questions.  They want applicants, they'll support you through the process.  Just try to ask good questions and not "I'm worried"  questions.

It's going to come down to the audition.  That should be your main focus - planning your program and playing it well.
