heroic vs. military

which do you think is the better Polonaise.

I've played both, and the heroic is definitely my favorite.  The military seems so boring in comparison. I love the melody borrowed for 'till the end of time' from the heroic. It is one of my favorite pieces.

The Military is a fine piece, but the Heroic is better.  Not by a huge margin, but it is superior IMO.

I prefer the Heroic, but I'm playing the Military Polonaise in my school's end of year concert.  The touch of the out-of-tune piano in the hall is terrible which makes double note passages etc. very difficult to play, and the acoustics of the hall are awful, it sounds almost like have a half-pedal held all the way through.   

Btw, I think my very favourite polonaise is op. 26 no. 2 in E flat minor.

I play both and I definitely prefer the heroic.  This was actually the piece that inspired me to take up piano again.

if chopin can write such a great and fun piece that sound difficult but that i learned and memorized in just a week after only have taken lessons for 2 years, than thats great piano writing

You think it sounds hard ? Or impressive? I don't think so at all... It looks easy, and it is

Regardless, it doesn't seem like a piece that someone who's only played for two years could learn and memorize in a week.  Hell, I've played for thirteen years, and I probably couldn't learn and memorize it in a week.

i know thats what worries me...

i seem to have been able to learn pieces faster a few years ago than i can now

i wonder why...

(ps i thought about it, it was more like 3 years and at the time it did seem impressive, plus it was the only piece i worked on that week and probably practiced 2-3 hours a day on it)

I have looked at the military polonaise written down and it doesen't look that easy! Is it actually easier to play than it looks?

my friend is learning the military right now and says it isn't too bad at all. Heroic does look alot harder. but difficulty isn't everything.

It's alot easier than it looks.  The hardest section for me was when your RH does the Bugle type theme in Octaves, because both hands are doing jumps, so you have to play at least one of the hands without looking at it.

The military polonaise was the first piece I was able to play not so bad at sight reading, a long time ago hehe. I learned the notes in 1 hour lol.

nah heroic is more wikid, i like op 44 too but not as much as op 53. Btw i don't think the military is supposed to be all that loud, if you banged that one out it would sound crap imo

nah it can be pretty loud. My teacher once played it and beat the piano to death during it. In fact he broke several strings. Now he is teaching the piece to my friend and says that you should strive to do the same when playing it. it is truly something when played loud.

I wouldn't quite say his hardest (Polonaise-Fantaisie and Op. 44)

I say Heroic. Very nice to hear, especially the middle part.
The Military is also is good, pumps me up and some of my cousins when they hear it.

i think Polonaise Fantasie is the hardest polonaise 
btw if compare this two
i would go with Heroic (harder longer and after u play it u get something more than op.40 no.1)
