Hey everyone,

Started my pianojourney about 3,5 years ago (as a 36 year old!).

Started with a Yamaha P45 and after a year I bought the Clavinova CLP745. All smooth sailing but I have come to a point where I want to record my own songs. Now to my problem, the CLP745 is a joy to play but the moment I hook it up to several VSTs (Keyscape/Pianoteq/Noire/CFX Garritan) I am confronted by the very poor MIDI output of the CLP745. It's compressed, hard to get into the lower and higher values of MIDI and is overall just a struggle. Yes, I know I can use MIDI scripts in my DAW to multiply/add/increase the MIDI output, yes I can tinker with velocity charts within VSTs but it's just trying to make it something it can't do.

Now, I am thinking of either adding another piano (in my already small room) which would be the VPC1, which the internet agrees is the holy grail as a MIDI controller. Alternatively, I'm thinking of replacing my CLP745 with a CA901, which supposedly has much better MIDI capabilities.

Does anyone here have any experience with the VPC1 or CA901? In an ideal world, I would like a digital piano which I can play over its own speakers (like the CLP745) AND works great as a midi controller. But sometimes, you can't have your cake and eat it too!

Hope someone can help me on my journey and give me some advice :)
