There are many many pieces that last over 15 minutes. What sort of piece are you looking for? Because there are heaps and heaps. So don't worry if you're looking for one, there's plenty to choose from. There are plenty to choose from that go twice and three times that long.

Well, I'm lookinf to play a fairly long piece because all my repertoire at the moment are lots of fairly short pieces.  I'm looking for something preferably from the Romantic period, along the lines of Liszt, Chopin etc.

Depending on how fast you take it, the Liszt-Wagner Tannhauser Overture can go over 15 minutes.

Here are some Brahms recs:

Brahms Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel lasts around 18 minutes;
Brahms Paganini Variations lasts over 15 minutes, as does his piano sonata no. 3.   :)

Satie’s “Vexations” although only two lines long lasts for over 22 hours (you are supposed to repeat it 840 times). Have a look here:

https://www.af.lu.se/~fogwall/article3.html

John Cage also wrote a long and slow piece: it should take 639 years to complete. :o Have a look here:

Long enough? ;D

Best wishes,
Bernhard.

I am in the complete opposite situation as you: I am addicted to long pieces over 10 minutes and I dont have any short ones.  My teacher is sort of reluctant to have me play at recitals because my pieces are always so long whereas the other kids come up and play some 4 minute chopin waltz.

If you want Liszt, he has a number of excellent opera transcriptions that run 10-18 minutes.  But most are very difficult so think hard before attempting one.  Have a look at Faust Waltz, Reminiscences de Norma, Reminiscences de Robert le Diable, don juan ( ;)) fantasy, among others.

For Chopin, his Bb minor scherzo or Ballade in G minor are among my favorites in terms of Chopin lengthy (8-10 min) works.  But if you want to go all out, try one of the sonatas!

Fact is, the Vexations really isn't supposed to be played 840 times. People have just been reading it too quickly. It (I'm just paraphrasing here) supposedly says, "To play this piece 840 times would require heavy amounts of preparation and meditation before hand." So really it's just saying if a person wanted to play it 840 times, then you would need lots of preparation.

Also, that Cage piece is for Organ. :p. Anyways, maybe the Godowsky Passcaglia? It's insanely difficult though, so be careful.

I'm with you: Liszt B minor is infinitely more colourful!  It's a good 30mins unless ur name is Vladimir Horowitz who does it in 24!  Either of the Chopin 2nd/3rd Sonatas are at least 20mins (the 1st Sonata, though interesting, isn't worth performing!).  Failing that there's the Rachmaninov 2nd Sonata/Ravel Gaspard de la Nuit (two more of my personal favourites).  You can try most sonatas, but be warned...the technical requirements more often than not increase with the length of the piece.  Then there's stamina to consider.  Be careful!

Ummmm take a look at the Spanish Rhapsody by Liszt, its very tiring and it can go for around 15 mins, depending on how fast you play it.... God that piece can kill you if you don't "steal" breaks in the middle :p Also the f minor fantasie by Chopin? That's around 13- 14 minutes...

If you want something not as full on perhaps try the Wanderer fantasy SteinwayTony suggested? Around 25 mins for 4 mvts all in one go :) goodluck

Liszt's Grand Solo de Concert typically lasts about 18 minutes.  Alkan's Concerto for Piano Solo has a first movement which takes over half an hour to perform (more than the other two movements put together); the Overture from the Op.39 etudes is also roughly fifteen minutes (on Ringeissen's recording I think it falls a few seconds short of 15 minutes).  Longer than fifteen minutes are the first movements of the Beethoven Concerti No.3, 4, and 5, of the Brahms No.1 and 2, of the Rachmaninov No.1 and No.3 (on some recordings), of the Chopin E minor, of the Schumann A minor (on some recordings), of the aforementioned Schubert D.960, and probably a number of others.  Schumann wrote a lot of suites of smaller pieces which work best when the entire set is played and which last fifteen minutes or more, such as "Carnaval", "Davidsbundlertanze", "Kreisleriana", and "Papillons".  His Fantasy in C and Humoresque in B-flat are also around the fifteen-minute mark.

Oh, and the Diabelli variations by Beethoven. :)

I agree that almost all of Schubert's sonatas last more than 20 minutes. Also try 3 piano pieces by Schubert. They're really wonderful and last about 20 minutes. Rach's Variations on a Theme by Corelli is also nice. Yes, Schumann also has nice suites as mentioned.

Rudepoema translates more towards "savage poem." Hamelin recorded this on his Villa-Lobos CD.

The original 1911 Stravinsky Firebird transcription of the ballet for solo piano by the composer lasts about an hour.

Rite of Spring lasts about 30 minutes.

Scraibin Sonata No.1 and 3. Some of his single movement sonatas could stretch 15 mins depending on tempo.

You'd have to play those single movement sonatas hideously slow to do that-- unless your name is Pogorelich  :P

Liszt's Ballade No. 2 in B minor is a very nice piece, and chimes in right at about 15 minutes.

I second (or third, really) the recommendation for the Franck Prelude, Choral, and Fugue.

The Bach-Busoni Chaconne in D minor is right at about 15 minutes, and I believe it's a great recital piece.  I plan to take it up in a few years when my technique is ready for it.
