The Quiet Revolutionary of the Piano – Fauré’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

In the pantheon of French music, Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924) often seems a paradox—an innovator cloaked in restraint, a Romantic by birth who shaped the contours of modern French music with quiet insistence. Piano Street now provides sheet music for his complete piano works: a body of music that resists spectacle, even as it brims with invention and brilliance. Read more

If you’re curious about the bigger project behind this, I’ve been arranging standards for years — a little over 1,500 at this point — most of them using my 4‑note (2+2) harmony approach. I’ve also put together around 65 tutorials that walk through the method in a very practical, hands‑on way. Everything’s collected here: www.Patreon.com/HarryLikas

I was the technical editor for Mark Levine’s "The Jazz Theory Book" and a contributor to "The Jazz Piano Book."

In 2+2 chords  (4 note harmony), each hand plays two notes: the left hand anchors the harmony, usually Root and 7th or Root and 3rd, and sometimes Root and 5th on tonic chords (especially when the root is in the lead), while the right-hand thumb fills in whichever tone (3rd or 7th) the left hand leaves out, and the remaining fingers carry the melody.

Thanks thimsellaid, Thanks. The tune really suits that approach, because the harmony can stay clear without needing heavy voicings or extra density.
