Some teachers dont scaffold the learning process sufficiently. If you haven't played something you find easy and can learn and master it fast, then thats a problem. Building from making a habit of control and quick learning makes the whole experience more engaging and less like climbing a mountain each time. Of course everyone is different, some students cant stand the basics and just want to jump in the deep end, honestly I think a mix of approaches is helpful.
