Audio file of me playing Hard Times - Ray Charles
on: April 09, 2005, 12:35:31 PM
This is my favourite song of all time and I luckily found an actual transcription and have been working on it for a few weeks

I am self taught and this has been my biggest challenge, I can just about play all of it except sometimes my timing is out (as you will hear)

Im just looking for some feedback.....

Its a slow blues song in Eb Major

7 pages, playing by memory.....

Well played!  It sounds like you really enjoy this piece.  My one concern is that you sound a bit tense in some places, and your sound isn't quite releasing, so it sounds a bit brittle.  Have you tried playing it all pianissimo? Try it and really concentrate on being loose and comfortable.  I think you'll soon notice a further improvement to the great start you've already made.

Yea I do play heavily :-/ I like to contrast but seem to be very tense as you say.....

My piano is old and sometimes I have to press hard to generate the sound I want...

thanks for the advice :0
