ps. of course, you need also to smile AND believe that the audience loves you!....seriously, that is.
The thing that really works for me is to smile! I always try and look 100% confident to the audience, (even though i am absolutely terrified inside) because if you look confident when striding on to the stage your audience will also believe in you. I also take time to adjust my stool, settle myself and wait for complete silence from the audience - you have to act as if you are in complete control even if you're not!
when you are rehearsing in the hall you will be playing at, take a little time to do this exercise.
thanks, i'll try this. what i actually do is: first time i go to rehearse in the hall i will have to play in, i sit at the piano facing the empty hall and i imagine it filled with people. i don't start rehearsing until i have the "full-hall" feeling.
