Tori Amos
on: April 11, 2005, 09:58:23 PM
Hello All,

I got a chance to spend a little time with Tori Amos today. We provided her a piano for a local performance and I just want to comment on what a sweet, real, genuine person she is. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting her and hearing her.

Although I have not listened to much of Tori Amos, it seems to me that each song uses the piano to paint a color on which her singing is inlayed. Each song has a mood, a definite hue.

She may not be the vocal technician that Cecelia Bartoli is, or the pianististic talent that Hamelin is, but her performance was.....well, genuine and soulful.

What a sweetie!

I am seriously jealous!!

I've been a fan of hers since her first album.  I agree, she paints colors with the piano, and .... oh what a voice, such emotion.

Did I mention I'm a fan.

Thanks for the story.  Glad to hear she's nice in person.

Jef

Rich:

Jon's Bosie was loaned to her for a VH1 appearance, apparently there;s a video of it somewhere where he can see his piano being played by her.  Pretty cool.

SWEET!  My local bookstore has a sale on music books tomorrow, I'm ready to pick up her anthology and biography.

I agree with your statement that she paints colors and moods with the piano.  She isn't a technician, really, but more interested in conveying an emotion, I think, and those are the players I am interested in.  Those that can create awesome feeling with just three chords played a different way - those are the artists I seek.  Classical music is great in its complexity, but sometimes you need simplicity.

He should probably Ebay that Bosey right now while those Tori cooties are still fresh and buy the 290 with the change.  8)  I might even trade him some distinquished American composer cooties for some Tori cooties.   :-X

Hey...... wait a minute - I've got a 214 that was signed by her!

Maybe I could get a 290 for everyone on the forum with the proceeds???  :D :D
