Playing out of subconscious
on: April 12, 2005, 03:04:07 PM
Do you notice that after playing a peice several times during the learning process it becomes so automatic that you don't even make an effort to cipher the printed notes?  It is almost entirely mechanical. Fingers go where you want them to without you "telling them".  Has this been your experience?

Actually, that's the situation one should aim at attaining, but only to some extent. It's very important to hold a certain degree of consciousness in our playing, as far as musicality of what we do is concerned.

YES!!! it happens to me a lot. However sometimes I find it to be very scary especially if you are playing it for performance. I tend to feel very insecured when my fingers just play and I don't have a clear idea of what notes i'm exactly playing.  Now I try to memorize or at least understand my piece before I play it too often that it becomes mechanical.
