I just want an audience. I really don't care who they are. Just fill those seats.

Yes, there's a reason. I find it really strange that Chopin was scared of large, impersonal audiences, but didn't mind a close circle of intimate friends. It's exactly the opposite for me. Concerts where people i want to impress are present scare me, because if i go wrong i have to face them, but an anonymous audience, no mattter how large, can never terrify me, or make my heart speed up so much as one beat. I don't have to face them again

I thought Chopin hated large audiences because he thought they were ignorant of real music.

People who've never heard what I'm playing, so if I stuff up they don't really know, or care.

Small audience (50-100), people who knows the finer points of music, people whom I know a little bit (and therefore try to impress ;) ) but are not intimate friends/family.

People who are there to enjoy the music, but not some hot-headed undergrad that thinks he will impress me by asking me all kinds of insane questions about the music I just played.  I love these types of discussions when appropriate, but not after a performance. Just sit back, shut up, and ENJOY the music for once! (This comes from my own personal experience. Studying music in college almost ruined me--it took me YEARS before I could ENJOY music after studying it so darn hard.)

I'd HATE to play in front of anybody from this forum - you all know too much about music; you'd all be like "hey you used the wrong fingering for this trill in bar x and you need more articulation here blah blah blah!"

Someone who actually cares about what I'm playing, how I'm playing it and in the music. A plus would be someone who listens objectively and not with preconceived views.  If I'm going to play for someone, I'd rather have them pay attention and be honest...

Afterthought:  Not complete strangers... I wouldn't be motivated to play for them... I'd only be scared...
Mad about Chopin.

Well, there is one thing about playing piano which gets to me every time. People who can't play just DON'T appreciate how hard it can be, how octave glissando is hell on a stick and how much time it takes to really get to grips with a rapid passage. I guess what I am trying to say is that my ideal audience would be pianists who are fully aware of how hard my pieces are to play, and are in awe of how I have mastered them <rubs hands together>. That will be all, my friends.

On one hand, it is easy to feel comfortable if I know the audience consists of non-pianists.  But in the end, that's a little hollow.  It's much more satisfying to play for knowledgeable people if I do well, (if they thought I did well too!) but much more nerve wracking!  I like to know the people love me no matter what, or are at least less critical than I am when I listen to pianists!

Deaf and blind for me...I'm always over-conscience about how I look at the piano, and with some of the modern works that I play you must had a complete lack of inhibition on stage. I would prefer...the dead.

It would be people who really love music! who dont come to a concert with a preconceived idea of how every piece on your programmes should (like 'cortot plays it at this metronome mark', 'oh Gould inverts that chord in his **** recording!') I really hate that!!! >:( People who can see past the odd wrong note who evaluate on the lines of creativity enthusiasm and communication and who have no idea who i am ( a blank canvas so to speak) :-*

Piano Street Magazine:
Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
