Composer Pianist Recordings
on: April 16, 2005, 01:46:18 PM
So after reading in the Rachmaninoff thread, it got me thinking. Who do you think is the best composer pianist? I mean who do you think recorded their music the best?

Rachy?
Prokofiev?
Shostakovich?
Gershwin?
others?

Grieg recorded some lyrical pieces, both acoustic and piano roll.
When he was asked to record, he would say: "why should I do it, there are many pianists who can play my music better!"
Anyway, we have for example "butterfly" recorded by him. Very nice to listen to, he plays it very well and is so free in the rubato.

I have heard a piano roll recording by Scriabin. The tempo changes (which is what a piano roll can record best) are quite striking.

There are also recordings made by Poulenc, playing solo piano pieces.
