check out this little kid
on: April 18, 2005, 02:15:09 PM
look at this site. This kid plays some bach partita and is nowhere near reaching the pedals. Also he plays that FI at a slightly older age and is barely reaching the pedals. He makes some mistakes, but I still think it is impressive.

For those who detest Real Player (for any or all of the various generally well-known reasons) and/or the the company that spawned it (for any or all of the various generally well-known reasons) try this:

you can also download a realplayer directshow filter and install it. You can then play real media files on your preferred media player.

and i'm not watching that... don't need to get depressed at the moment.

I agree, Real Player is rubbish. I can't get this to open even with it.
Please, please will people start to use the 'almost universal' Windows Media Player or Quicktime, please!

This is usually the unfortunate truth thought. Maybe not in this circumstance, but I know many kids who go through this.

Also, realplayer is so good. For oganizing music and everything. Just get it, u'll all like it.

great... so the little kid can move his fingers really fast...

don't get me wrong - i'm not saying that I am not amazed by this kid's technical ability. However, at his age there is NO way that he can fully perceive the complexities of a work like Fantaisie-Impromptu, much less be able to convey them. At most, this is an imitation of the way that his teacher plays this work.

Well of course that's the case.  Do you really expect him to be able to analyze and understand the complexities of a piece like the Fantasie-impromptu?  What's impressive is his technical ability at such a young age.  It's understood that he is most likely imitating his teacher and conveying very little interpretation of his own.

Well, when was the last time you've seen an ehrm, asian, play without impressive technicality ..... and an interpretation at all? You guys think this is amazing, but to be honest, I've seen it oh so many times!

we have more and more prodigies these days (alot are from asia). technical standard in competition is, therefore, set higher. however, do we see an increasing number of performers with personality? tds

oh maybe i should let you see a recording of me then... i'm ASIAN.

and a good technical base is ALWAYS the foundation to be able to convey the meaning.

without a good technical ability, its impossible.

like a great artist with no idea how to draw
a driving prodigy with no idea how to change gears
a fast swimmer who doesn't know how to swim
a great mathematician who doesn't know how to count.

Good for him!
That was a great performance. Hopefully he enjoyed it as much as the spectators did.
