on: April 22, 2005, 06:46:22 PM
ah yes..the facile...i just started it yesterday...im having trouble on those scalings...its not that i cant get them right..i can..its just..getting them to that tempo is killing me..i trip over notes and sometimes i fall on the ground and scrape my knee...they are HARD..anyways..my question is...

is it just repetetive practice to gain the speed needed for this scalings?...or is there a good method to develope traveling speed?..thank you

well I think just practicing your scales should give you the speed to play those scales on that Sonata...Or just play the scales in the sonata over and over until u get the speed :). you'll be alright

the problem here is that the introductory bars are so easy that people start to play much too fast. try the scales first and find out the general beat you feel comfortable with and apply this to the whole opus.

don't underestimate this piece! i just finished it and had some severe discussions with an imagined mozart along the way  :)

k. 545 is a great little piece... I played it, gosh- 2 or 3 years ago now. Learn the second and third movements, too- the second is absolutely beautiful. The third is fun.
Make sure you're using the correct fingering for the scales, and work the slowly until you have the notes learn. You should be able to really speed it up after that.
But don't play it too fast! :)

I agree that most play the easy intro too fast then get caught out....BUT please don't use your scales tempo to dictate your intro bars speed. Instead go to the arpeggios and use those to dictate your starting tempo! You will play the scales faster than those arpeggios in a short time, then you're back to square one.
To reiterate, establish your best tempo of arpeggios and then use that tempo to start the piece.
It's a lovely piece and I concur with the other posting, 2nd movement and third movements are charming. BTW Alfreds have a great book (something like), An Introduction to the Piano Works of Mozart. It has all 3 mvts and great editorial info presented in a really unique way. Editorial suggestions are explained and printed in light grey. Mozart's original score details are in bold black. That way you see how it was presented to us by Mozart, and learn how and why editorial suggestions are included.
Enjoy, good luck  :)

Practice slowly at first. If you trip, you are going too fast, so back off the tempo. :) Sounds easy--it is. There is no hurry to play the scale passages fast unless you have a gig next weekend; in that case, pick a piece you already know. :)

fingering and understanding the scale structures are no problem..its just..i cant keep that nice flowing tempo..sometiems i hit em right..but its hard to keep them flowing continuously..i sometimes speed up witha  finger trip or miss a note...ugh..i gues its just a matter of time
