Emanuel Ax

Just seen Emanuel Ax for the first time at the Royal Festival Hall playing Beethoven's 'Emperor' Concerto and it was absolutely phenomenal!  Anyone else seen much of Ax's playing?  What did you think?  I really want to study with this guy!  ;D

I read that he was teaching on the faculty at Julliard in the States a couple of years ago.  Dunno if he's still there, but he is amazing, no?

He's still at Juilliard.

He's made a bunch of spectacular recordings, including the complete Beethoven concerots (for cheap, ~$19) and original instrument performances of the Chopin concertos.  His frequent two-piano collaboration with Bronfman is wonderful.

Oh my gosh, I just saw this thread and realized how long he has been around.  I have a recording (somewhere--and it's an LP recording!!)of Emmanuel Ax playing something.  This was like 20 years ago!  How old is he now?
