on: April 26, 2005, 09:06:38 AM
Why do i get the feeling that Van Cliburn competition winners get forgotten too soon whereas the Tchaikovsky comp. winners do produce some of the greats (Van Cliburn, Pletnev, Sokolov) ! If i am missing out on the van cliburn comp. greats, please remind me !
Waste of time -- do not read signatures.

The Tchaikovsky Competition is more widely renowned (thanks to Van Cliburn way back)? Just my perception of it.

I think there is one Van Cliburn winner that is truely beginning to crack it... Olga Kern. She was on a concert tour here (South Africa) earlier this year and she was INCREDIBLE! On the first week, she played Rach 1 and 3, in one night, for 2 nights, if that makes sense. Second week: she played Rach 2, 4, and the Rhapsody ( In one night... then did the same the next night!) And didnt show any tiredness at all! Then she played her recital (Chopin 2nd sonata, Rach- Bach transcriptions, Brahms-Handel variations, etc) She is going to be great.
I dont play an instrument, I play the piano.

I'll second the comment on good ol' Olga.
