Chopin's Impromptu No. 2
on: April 28, 2005, 03:59:04 AM
I have just started working on this peice, and it looks pretty doable. At least the first 1 and 1/2 pages are fine (if I can manage to hit the right octaves in the left hand once its at full tempo). However, the next 4 pages--when it goes from triplets to 32nd notes--look a little more taxing.

How fast should the 32nd note passage go? It says Andantino at the beginning, but I'm not clear on this exact tempo.

Which section is harder and requires more attention: the 32nd note passage or the triplet passage immediately preceding it?

How does this compare (in terms of difficulty) to the other 3 impromptus (I'm guessing the easiest of the 4)?

How does it compare to Brahms op. 79/1 (rhapsody--another peice I'm working on)?

Any other advice would be welcome of course. It looks pretty straight forward. I'm glad I'm playing this impromtu rather than the Fantasy Impromptu.

Thanks,

The speed of this passage is determined by the melodic counterpoint in the Left hand.
