Wagner’s Universe in a Pianist’s Hands

One of the most thrilling performances offered at Cremona Musica this year was the Wagner by Liszt recital given by Filippo Tenisci – Italian pianist, born 1998 and celebrated for his refined interpretations and expressive mastery of the Romantic repertoire. After his recital we got the chance talking to Tenici about his Wagner/Liszt project. Read more

Tovey's annotated Beethoven sonatas
on: May 02, 2005, 01:03:54 AM
My teacher wants me to buy the Tovey annotated Beethoven sonatas (3 volumes).  They're published by ABRSM, edited by Craxton.

I know a lot of you are ABRSM students in the UK, so tell me what's special about these editions?

I'm not a ABRSM student, but I've used the Tovey edditions in learning Beethoven sonatas. They are extremely helpful because of Tovey's detailed, logical insights into learning, practicing and performing the pieces and his thorough breakdown of the sonata's structure (here is the first theme, second theme, first episode, sub-theme etc.). Of all the editions I have used, Tovey is the most helpful.

Gee, I love how reading this site opens my eyes.   I didn't know that sheet music could come with annotations!!  I had to look into it a bit myself.

Floristan, if you do a search on Tovey you will see several positive mentions here (I didn't check that they were the exact ones you mentioned).  They do seem to have the all-important Bernhard PF Seal of Approval (hereafter known as BPFSA (bupfsa).

It would be nice if we could peruse a page, but the only site I found with this ability only enabled the preface.
