Jazz Saxophone
on: May 02, 2005, 01:53:05 AM
Hello My Name Is Cary And Im 14 Years Old Ive Been Playing The Saxophone For 4 Years And Jazz For 2 Years I Was Wondering If You have Any Tips On How I Can Improve In My Music Theory Etc.
Listen to as much music as you can, and find a teacher that will always ask more of you than you think you are able to give.

Well you kind of answered your own question. Find a good teacher. Otherwise there are some good books you can read, i'd recommend the AB guide to music theory, it comes in two parts but if you get through them you've got pretty much all the theory you'll need. You may not be able to do a full in depth analysis of any peice but it'll give you all most people will ever need. This is more for classical theory though. Most of the same rules apply to jazz as well but they are sometimes used differently. I can't really help with a good jazz theory book, but i'm sure someone who knows a lot more than me will be able to help.
