Suzuki Method
on: May 03, 2005, 03:30:20 AM
Hello!
I need someone to explain the Suzuki method to me!! I mean for the most part, the benefit of it all.
When Suzuki students come to me, they can play pieces but they can't communicate with me what they see on the paper and they are very resistant to reading. Not to mention, extremely resistant to any sort of change at all! So then, I can't figure out how begin new pieces with them--unless I play it for them. But then they will always be dependent--so I don't quite understand it.
Do Suzuki students ever learn to read or is it a matter of developing a few really good pieces and being able to perform well?
Any tips on how to transition the child from playing by ear to playing by reading?
And please tell me what it is that gets the kids (and sometimes the parents) almost religious about the method!
Thankyou!

See the itty-bitty search button on about the 4th line of the site krissywissy (said with total good humor
)? If you search for Suzuki you will find several previous discussions about it. I think it can be a bit of a hot topic too, so don't be surprised if you get lots more posts.
