Hello!
I need someone to explain the Suzuki method to me!! I mean for the most part, the benefit of it all.
When Suzuki students come to me, they can play pieces but they can't communicate with me what they see on the paper and they are very resistant to reading. Not to mention, extremely resistant to any sort of change at all! So then, I can't figure out how begin new pieces with them--unless I play it for them. But then they will always be dependent--so I don't quite understand it.
Do Suzuki students ever learn to read or is it a matter of developing a few really good pieces and being able to perform well?
Any tips on how to transition the child from playing by ear to playing by reading?
And please tell me what it is that gets the kids (and sometimes the parents) almost religious about the method!
