;Di was wondering is the opening passage suppose to be agitated and is there such thing as it  being to agitated, my teachers feels that i play it fine but to me it sounds soo hectic(sp) or is that maybe because i've listened to, too many recordings of it and trying to make it perfect?  and pedaling could i get some advice? :)

those are all valid questions..... I have recently performed this work. Your concerns would be much more important if you were playing the first piece "Des Abends" along with "Aufschwung" (the original german title of 'soaring'). Nonetheless, you should try and perfect your performance.
1. In 6/8 time, we count in 2 dotted quarters, so one dotted quarter = 108 is an ok tempo. it requires a flexible wrists. you can play faster but i wouldn't go much faster than 120-130 maximum.
2. my advice is leave the first few bars dry until the C comes in the left hand - this way you leave that rich sound  a surprise to the audience. However, if you do it that way, you must be careful to shape the melody very well (especially if you play it using the right hand only). if you need more advice, mail me at [email protected]
