Summer Recital Programme & Another for 2006
on: May 05, 2005, 09:42:02 PM
I have an outdoor summer recital booked and am just finalising my programme details.  Thoughts please?

Bach/Rachmaninoff         Suite from Partita in E, BWV 1006

Beethoven                    Sonata No 18 in Eb, Op 31 No 3

INTERVAL

Debussy                       Masques
                                  D'Un Cahier D'Esquisses
                                  L'Isle Joyeuse

Liszt                            Rhapsody Espagnole

Encore:

Grainger                       In Dahomey 'Cakewalk Smasher'

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Chris

Well I guess there's no better praise for a programme than an enticed concert goer!  If ur in SouthEast England, it's gonna be at Highlans House, Chelmsford on the 17th July!

love your encore, too!  percy grainger is cool.
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

I love Percy Grainer too, but never heard of that piece.  Anyone have a copy to share, or know where I could get one please ??   :)

Afraid I can't send a score as I don't have access to a scanner.  You prabably haven't heard of it because although it was written in 1911, it was only discovered in 1987, and published very recently by Edition Peters (Catalogue No. 66950).  Contact your local music store and they should be able to order it with no problem.

Thanks for that. I'm certainly going to try to locate it.  Is it difficult?  My repertoire of Grainger consists of Country Gardens (of course !!) , Shepherds Hey, 2 of the Gershwin song transcriptions, Blithe Bells (a great transcription, in my opinion, of Bach's "sheep may safely graze"), and I'm currently working on the arrangement of the Flower Waltz from Tchaikowsky's Nutcracker suite.  I really love Grainger's music - such fun to play.   :)

It is extremely difficult.  I still don't know if I can properly do it justice, but I will do my best!  It's full of very fast, unusual figurations, but it's basially rag-time music - souped up, very sophisticated Joplin: very exciting!  If I can get a recording done, i will try to post it up...Martin Jones has given a tremendous rendition of it in his 'complete piano works of Grainger' box set.

As for Spanish Rhapsody...well...if only my name were Cziffra or Gilels or Arrau...c'est la vie *sighs hopefully*  :)  .....It will be good!  :D

I'm in london, is Chelmsford close i've never been there.  If it's cheap enough to get there i'll come see you.  It'd be cool to actually see someone from the site play live.  And it sounds like it'll be a good show.
I'll be Bach

The address of the place is

Hylands House
Hylands Park
London Road
Chelmsford
Essex
CM2 8WQ

It's not further than about 1hrs car journey, as I understand it (I've not yet travelled there myself!!!).  I'll keep you posted - pm/email me sometime nearer July and I should have more details.

While I'm at it, I have another programme to check for a recital I have been offered in September/October 2006:-

Beethoven              Sonata No. 24 in F#, Op. 78

Chopin                   Nocturne in F, Op. 15 No. 1
                            Barcarolle in F#, Op. 60

Ravel                     Valses Nobles et Sentimentales

INTERVAL

Liszt                      Sonata in B minor

...more opinions please!  :P ;D

Many Thanks,

Chris

When Practice Stagnates – Breaking the Performance Ceiling: Robotic Training for Pianists

“Practice makes perfect” is a common mantra for any pianist, but we all know it’s an oversimplification. While practice often leads to improvement, true perfection is elusive. But according to recent research, a robotic exoskeleton hand could help pianists improve their speed of performing difficult pianistic patterns, by overcoming the well-known “ceiling effect”.
