Sound affect touch
on: May 06, 2005, 06:26:23 AM
Does the amount of sound coming from a piano affect the touch?

Wierd sitchmawation:

In the practice rooms there are pads that absorb sound

the closer self moves the piano to the pad the stiffer the action feels

is there some link or is it just a mental substition of audibility and kinestheticability (less one sense more the other)

It's clearly just a mental substition of audibility and kinestheticability (less one sense more the other) that self is perceiving ;)

Absolutely. The less easily the piano produces tone, the stiffer the action can seem to be.

It's not an either/or; it's a both/and.

I think the opposite is more true-- the touch affects the sound.

It is hard to do a "piano" on my grand without using the una corda pedal, because an effort to "light-touch" the keys means the keys may not always strike.

I think some piano actions are more responsive to touch than others.

My piano is supposed to have a German Schwander action.

I wonder when Glyptodont's piano action was last regulated. And who did the regulation. It probably can perform much better at piano piano than it does. The una corda is not really a "soft" pedal.
